Three Youth-Written Plays, One Night: All-of-us Express’ First Young Playwrights Festival

Next weekend (May 9), East Lansing-based All-of-us Express Children’s Theatre will be performing their first ever Young Playwrights Festival, directed by youth participant Savannah Segueda.

Youth from Dewitt, East Lansing, Grand Ledge, Haslett, Lansing, and Okemos comprise the cast and crew of this latest production, with students aged eight to eighteen. The plays included in the festival are “The Journeys of Miss Pepper” by Abby Murray, age twelve; “The Fairy Tale Book” by Ava Brewer, age twelve; and “Our Binding Flaws” by Audrey Tieman, age thirteen.

In “The Journeys of Miss Pepper,” title character Pepper goes looking for her father and encounters both friends and foes on the journey. “The Fairy Tale Book” takes place in a land of make believe, where Alice, Peter Pan and Cinderella implore Daisy to be the next caretaker of the fairy tale world. And to round out the three tales, “Our Binding Flaws” opens on Evelyn, a grieving widow, who speaks with Love, Life and Death to come to terms with her loss. Evelyn’s friend, James, and manifestations of her husband, Charles, assist in her recovery.

Tickets for these three shorts are on sale now and can be purchased in advance at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center box office, either in person, or by calling (517) 333-2580, ext. 0. Tickets are $5 for those seventeen and under, and $7 for ages eighteen and up. Tickets are also available 30 minutes prior to the show.

All-of-us has recently entered a new era with their promotions, so keep your eyes peeled for AECT cast and crew members at area locations and events, like libraries, and Potter Park Zoo’s annual Boo at the Zoo!
