According to a press release from The City of East Lansing, the City has lifted the Boil Water Advisory for East Lansing (and Meridian Township) in effect since Friday, August 5. Residents may now safely resume the use of tap water for all purposes.
The City’s message explains that “The test results for the first and second round of samples collected from the water treatment plant and the distribution systems in East Lansing and Meridian Township have come back negative for harmful bacteria. The test results confirm that the distribution systems were never contaminated. It is not necessary for residents to do anything, such as in-home flushing, prior to resuming full use of their tap water.”
The Boil Water Advisory stemmed from an upset in one of the filters at the plant, which might have caused harmful bacteria to enter the water supply distribution systems. “Out of an abundance of caution and for the sake of public health, the advisory was issued.”
The City asks that community members share this information with others who drink East Lansing and/or Meridian Township water, “especially those who may not receive this information directly.”
