East Lansing synagogue Congregation Shaarey Zedek will hold a prayer vigil this Thursday, November 1, in response to the Saturday morning massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Eleven people were killed during the shooting, which occurred during a regular Saturday morning service at the synagogue. Many other worshippers and several responding police officers were injured.

The event at Shaarey Zedek will be a Jewish service and the traditional Jewish prayers of mourning will be said, but the service is open to all members of the community.

According to a Facebook post by the Interfaith Clergy Association of Greater Lansing, “clergy from other traditions will be present, taking part, and offering support for our community and our Jewish friends and neighbors.”

The Association’s message adds that they hope people “will join us for a time of mourning, prayer, and remembrance.” The service will take place from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Congregation Shaarey Zedek is located at 1924 Coolidge Road, just south of Lake Lansing Road, in East Lansing.
