Anne Fedewa Subrizi
Class of 1984
What is your occupation?
I work in advertising and marketing
Why did you make East Lansing your home?
My family is here—parents, siblings, in-laws, nieces/nephews, uncles/aunts, cousins. After living in the Washington, D.C., area for close to 20 years, my husband and I decided to move back to a place where we could have a real work-life balance—meaning less time working and in traffic, and more family time. We have two boys. One is in college, the other in high school.
Where did you grow up in East Lansing?
Whitehills
Where do you live or work now?
I spend most of my days at my office in East Lansing where I work as the marketing director for Creative Wellness.
What are some funny or fond memories you have about high school?
A funny memory is fitting 20 people in my green Chevette after school one day. They don’t make those cars anymore, but they were very small and really didn’t even have enough room for four people.
What was your favorite place in East Lansing when you attended high school?
We loved riding our bikes to 7-11 for a Slurpee, eating “tummy busters” at The Pantry, and no matter where we were, always the feeling of having great friends who would stand by your side.
What path did you initially take when you graduated?
I went to Lansing Community College for two years, MSU for two years, and graduated with a B.A. in advertising from MSU in 1988. I then moved to Washington, D.C., and started my career in advertising.

What do you think is different about high school today?
Much more pressure!
What do you think is the same?
The importance of good friends. The bonds of friendship that I created in high school are still very much part of my life. I have some friends who I met in high school/middle school who are still some of my closest, most cherished friends.
What advice do you have for graduating seniors?
Focus on the moment. Be present in the moment. Be completely aware and appreciate what is happening to you at each moment in your life, through each stage in your life. I’ve always been a planner and have had to work hard to do more living in the moment. Now in my 50s, I wish I was able to do more of this when I was younger.
