What is your occupation?

Why did you make East Lansing home?
I’ve lived in East Lansing for almost my whole life. After graduating high school I went to Grand Valley for my freshman year, but then transferred back home to MSU to complete my degree. I recently graduated from MSU, and for the time being, I plan to stay in the East Lansing area. It’s a great community that really has something for everyone.
Where did you grow up in East Lansing?
Pinecrest
Where do you live now?
I’m currently living in a neighborhood that is close to campus.
What are some funny or fond memories you have about high school?
High school is an awkward time for everyone, but some of my favorite memories were hanging out after school with my friends, and all the post practice and post meet outings that the swim team would do. We would go to Tasty Twist or Bubble Island or McDonald’s in our friends’ beat-up old vans and just have a nice time.
What was your favorite place in East Lansing when you attended high school? Why?
I loved going to Bubble Island in downtown East Lansing. I can still remember the days when they served food, and it was a lot of fun leaving school to go get chicken and curly fries and some bubble tea for lunch.
What path did you initially take when you graduated?
I decided to take the college route after graduation. I went to GVSU for my freshman year, but it just wasn’t what I was looking for in a school. So I transferred to MSU.

What do you think is different about high school today?
I’ve heard great things about the more recently implemented AP classes. AP is a great way to cut down on college costs and requirements and it challenges you in a way other classes may not.
What do you think is the same?
There’s the mentality that students can make the world a better place. The majority of the younger generations have a type of kindness and acceptance that is sorely needed. I’m pretty sure spirit weeks are also still a thing.
What advice do you have for graduating seniors?
Don’t feel like you need to have everything figured out or know where you’re going in life. College doesn’t have to be the only option; there are so many ways to get you to where you’re supposed to be. If school was never really your thing, or you’re not sure what you want to do, that’s totally fine! Take some time off if you need to work or travel and just enjoy yourself. Figure out who you are outside of school and how you want to grow. Also, don’t rule out trade schools or creative programs—we’re told that universities are the only real way to make it in life. That’s just not true.
