According to a press release from the East Lansing Police Department (ELPD), at least seven suspects have been identified in a rash of thefts from parked vehicles. “This morning (9/16/16) at approximately 5:30AM officers...were out on foot in the northwest quadrant of the City in the area where many of the recent vehicle larcenies have occurred over the past week," according to ELPD.

ELPD had increased patrols including both detectives and uniformed officers in in that area because of the numerous thefts.

The officers out this morning witnessed several juvenile subjects in the area, and “when ELPD tried to make contact, at least seven subjects left the area in at least two vehicles.” Both vehicles were recently stolen in East Lansing.

Both cars failed to stop when ELPD officers tried to pull them over, and “two different pursuits occurred,” one ending at Cedar Street and I-96 and the other ending near the intersection of Waverly and Lansing Roads. Five of the seven occupants of the cars fled from the vehicles, and a K-9 track didn’t find them. All seven subjects have been identified, and the two who remained in the vehicles rather than fleeing from ELPD officers (both young women) have been released to their parents.

The ELPD Detective Bureau is actively working to locate the five outstanding subjects.
