An attempted armed robbery of the Subway restaurant at 1100 E Grand River, near the Cedar Village apartments occurred late last night. The East Lansing Police Department is looking for a male suspect of unknown race in connection with the crime.
The suspect, who was wearing an orange ski mask and ski goggles, entered the Subway at 11:30 last night. According to ELPD Lieutenant Chad Connelly, a gun was seen by the Subway employee who called the police. No one was injured during the attempted robbery.
This crime is similar in nature to several other attempted robberies in the area, including the fact that the suspect was wearing ski goggles. At least one of the other robberies also took place at a Subway. Although the ELPD investigation is still in its early stages, Connelly told ELi that it is likely they will be working with law enforcement from the other communities where robberies and attempted robberies have occurred.
Connelly encouraged East Lansing residents to be aware of their surroundings and to call the police if they notice anything out of the ordinary. The suspect is thought to be in possession of a fire arm and is considered to be armed and dangerous. Citizens have been warned not to approach or engage with him, but to report anything suspicious to the ELPD.
