On Saturday, October 11, and Sunday, October 12, Friends of the East Lansing Public Library will hold its annual Fall Used Book Sale. Proceeds from the sale are used to buy materials that exceed the Library's regular budget, including books, computers, furniture, music, and programming.
The Friends of the East Lansing Public Library has won both the City of East Lansing’s Crystal Award and the Keep Michigan Beautiful Distinguished Service Award for providing the East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) with decades of creative and dedicated volunteer support. Volunteer Marsha Bristor was awarded her own Crystal Award for her dedication to the Library in 2012, and is now in her 16th year of volunteering. She serves as the go-to person for the Library’s ongoing “Friendshop,” as well as putting in extra hours to prepare for the Annual Sale.
According to Bristor, the Sale offers a large selection of fiction and nonfiction books for readers of all ages as well as DVD movies, music and books on CD, LP records and more. Hardcover books are priced at one dollar, paperbacks at 50 cents and children’s books at 25 cents.
Shoppers can beat the crowds by making a three dollar early admission donation which provides access to the sale from 9 am – 10 am on Saturday, an hour before the general public. Members of Friends of the East Lansing Public Library will also be allowed to enter at this earlier time, at no extra charge. On Sunday between 1 pm and 3 pm, shoppers may fill a bag of books for only four dollars.
Although books may typically be donated at any time the library is open, Bristor states that “at this time our back room is at capacity and new donations are being discouraged until after the big sale."
The Friends of the East Lansing Public Library Fall Used Book Sale will take place on Saturday, October 11 from 10 am -5 pm and Sunday, October 12 from 1 pm-3 pm in the Library's Meeting Room and North Foyer Gallery. The Library is located at 950 Abbot Road, in East Lansing.
