East Lansing’s 22nd annual Summer Solstice Jazz Festival is set for this weekend, kicking off on Friday, June 22 and finishing Saturday, June 23 at 139 Bailey St. The Festival opens at 4 p.m. both days.
Due to construction in the downtown EL area, the Festival has been moved to its new Bailey Street location for 2018. A map of the new festival layout is available here.
Friday’s headliner is the Lansing Symphony Big Band with Benny Benack III. Opening ahead of Friday’s top performers are Sunny Wilkinson, Baldori and Migliazza and OC Jazz Collective, among others.
Saturday will feature the likes of Barbara Ware and Orquesta Ritmo alongside the headliner The Gathering Orchestra with Rene Marie and saxophonist Steve Wilson.
A full list of performers can be found here.
The festival has been an East Lansing fixture for more than 20 years, thanks mostly to its founders, Beth and Al Cafagna. As a pair of jazz-loving Michigan State University students, the duo held the first festival in front of MSU’s Auditorium.
