With 100% of the votes counted, the parking lot sale ballot initiative has failed, according to the Ingham and Clinton county election results websites.
The vote count reported is 5,163 Yes (57%) and 3,891 No (43%). A 60% Yes vote was required for the initiative to pass. In an interesting twist, the vote tally did not change when the last unreported precinct was tallied. See our earlier article HERE.
City Council member Ruth Beier, when reached for comment, said "It is time to come together and move forward." Beier was the only councilor not included on a city mailing endorsing a yes vote on the initiative.
Former Mayor Mark Meadows declined to comment on the results when reached by East Lansing Info.
