On Saturday, East Lansing residents will have a chance to recycle a vast array of household items at the annual Recycle! East Lansing event.
Running from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 2, the event is taking place at the Abbott Center at 1400-1500 Abbot Road. East Lansing residents must bring proof of residency.
Though many recyclable items will be accepted, there are certain specific appliances that residents are encouraged to dispose of elsewhere, according to the event’s webpage and flyer.
Among the acceptable appliances are refrigerators and freezers, which will be picked up by the Board of Water and Light for a $50 rebate. The number to call to arrange the pickup and rebate is on the event webpage, which also says Consumers Energy offers a similar program.
BWL offers a similar program for room air conditioners. They’ll take two per household with a rebate of $25 a piece.
The event will not be accepting regular curbside recyclables.
Unacceptable items include, but are not limited to, household chemicals — cleaners, paints, solvents, mercury — and containers for those items like gas cans or propane tanks.
Also not accepted are building materials like bricks, drywall, fencing and steel cable; couches, yard waste, trash, personal documents, household batteries and glass. Check the event site for a complete list on unaccepted items.
