The East Lansing Rotary Club and Foundation will host its 31st Scramble for Scholarships at 1:30 p.m. next Monday, Sept. 9, at Forest Akers West Golf Course.

Funds raised at the outing will provide scholarships for college-bound East Lansing High School seniors. All ELHS seniors are invited to apply for the Joe Gross Memorial Scholarships; applications will be judged on the basis of school and/or community service, plus academic achievement and financial need.

Over the past 30 years, this event has generated more than $135,000 in awards. Scholarships totaling $12,000 were awarded this year to seven graduating seniors in May.

Alumni, friends and supporters of ELHS can participate as golfers, sponsors and prize donors. Costs are $100 per golfer, and sponsor signs placed at the tees and greens are available for $100 to $500. Prizes, such as gift certificates and golf items, are included in a raffle that is held the day of the outing.

Golfers will compete for many prizes, including awards for low foursomes; longest putts; closest to the pin on all par 3s; most accurate drive to the fairway line; and longest drives for men and women. Participants will be allowed to purchase mulligans, 50-50 raffle tickets, and proximity markers to convert close putts.

Lansing Board of Water and Light and Williams AutoWorld are the two major sponsors of the event this year.

For more information or to register for golf, become a sponsor or donate a prize, contact Bob Page by email or by phone at (517) 347-6990.
