Saturday Fundraiser Supports Haven House Families

If you are one of the people who received a bag in front of their house with a list of items needed at Haven House, you may have been wondering what that was all about. Haven House, located near the East Lansing Public Library, is a local shelter that “…provides emergency housing and support services for one-parent and two-parent families with children. The shelter helps families who are homeless prepare for permanent housing by developing and promoting self-sufficiency, stability, and financial responsibility.”

Back to those bags: a needs drive fundraiser for Haven House will take place this Saturday, July 15, at Patriarche Park from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. sponsored by Community Realty and Amerifirst Mortgage. Event organizer Jenn Hill says community members can “come enjoy a grilled hot dog, meet your neighbors, and support a local charity.”

If you received a donation bag outside your home, you may put requested items in the bags and leave them outside. They will be picked up around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

You may also drop off your bag at Patriarche Park during the hours of the fundraiser. If you prefer, cash donations will also be accepted at the event. In case you didn't get a bag, urgently needed items at Haven House currently include:

• Band-Aids
• Men’s & Women’s Shaving Cream/Razors
• Men’s Deodorant
• OTC Infants, Children’s & Adult Pain Meds
• Toilet Paper
• Children’s Toothpaste
• Body wash
• Shampoo
• Lotion
• Tissues
