Update 10/22: The ELPD has issued a second press release indicating that their Detective Bureau is still actively working the case and "has
made contact with several people who were with the victim throughout the day." They have also "followed up on several tips that were received
yesterday." ELi is aware that there has been some confusion about where the assault actually occurred, and ELPD states that they "have yet to determine the exact location where the reported assault took place." Finally, the Department says that "at this time, there is no connection between this reported sexual assault and any other previous reported sexual assaults in East Lansing."
According to a press release issued by the City of East Lansing, “at approximately 5:10 a.m. today, Oct. 21, the East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) was dispatched to the 900 block of Northlawn Avenue on a report of a sexual assault.”
The victim was a 31-year-old woman who “stated that she was walking home to an apartment in East Lansing when she was attacked from behind, pulled into the woods near the Saginaw-Harrison intersection and sexually assaulted. After the assault, she made contact with a resident in the 900 block of Northlawn Avenue who called 911.”
As was previously reported, the suspect was described by the victim as “as a white male, approximately 30-40 years old and approximately 6 ft. tall.” She further indicated that he was “muscular with no facial hair and states that he was wearing jeans and a shirt (unknown color) at the time of the attack. The victim states that there was no weapon used or indicated during the attack" although inital reports mentioned the possibility of a weapon.
ELi has requested further information, and will update this story as we learn more. The ELPD Detective Bureau is investigating this case, and officers are working to locate the suspect and the exact location of the crime. Anyone with information is asked to contact ELPD Det. Chris Shadduck at (517) 319-6842.
