Valentine’s Day at MSU
Ahh, Valentine’s Day. Everyone has a different opinion about the holiday. Some love it because they’ve celebrated it with their significant other for years. Other despise it because they’ve never had a valentine or have a terrible memory of the day. Some may have a significant other, but find the holiday exhausting with too many expectations.
No matter their views towards the love-themed day, we can all agree Valentine’s Day is one of the biggest holidays of the year.
Eli got four MSU students to answer our questions about Valentine’s Day. Sarah has dated her girlfriend for over two years. Collin is single. Gina has dated her boyfriend for over a year. Bailey is single. They all have differing views on Valentine’s Day.
If you could describe Valentine’s Day in one word, what would you use?
Sarah: Chocolate
Collin: Red. Between red hearts and Taylor Swift’s hit album “Red,” what more is there to say?
Gina: Love
Bailey: Happy
What are your plans this year?
Sarah: I was going to take my girlfriend to a hibachi steakhouse but they’re booked until 10pm and she works 7pm until 1am.
Collin: FaceTime my mom and then celebrate this great day by eating two red velvet cupcakes.
Gina: Have not decided yet, but probably dinner with my boyfriend
Bailey: Having a good time with my single friends
Do you think Valentine’s Day is just a scheme to get us to buy unneeded stuff?
Sarah: I definitely think it’s a real holiday.
Collin: Don’t even question me if this holiday is a scheme! Saying that would be like saying the Easter bunny or Santa isn’t real. Don’t be a Valentine’s Day Scrooge!
Gina: I enjoy it, but I think it is somewhat of scheme to get us to buy stuff.
Bailey: No it re-evaluates couples and how they view each other. It’s a good day to see how their relationship is going.
Best/worst memory of Valentine’s Day?
Sarah: Worst memory is when I found out (months later) that my girlfriend kissed someone else on Valentine’s Day. It’s a long story, but it definitely got resolved afterward.
Collin: My best memory of Valentine’s Day is when I had a whole red velvet cake to myself one year and my worst memory is when I threw up that cake later.
Gina: Best memory was when my dad bought my mother, sister, and me roses one Valentine’s Day!
Bailey: I had one of my worst sinus infections and my boyfriend at the time was getting annoyed with me coughing and sniffing.
