Homeless Angels Seek Help as Temperatures Drop

It’s 17° Fahrenheit in the Lansing area, and it feels like 2°. By later tonight temperatures are predicted to fall as low as 4° with wind-chill temperatures below 0°.

While many of us are wearing multiple sweaters in our heated homes, cars and offices, there are a number of people in the area sleeping outdoors. Temperatures this low can easily result in frostbite, hypothermia and possibly death for Lansing and East Lansing’s homeless population if they are unable to find shelter or keep themselves warm.

Enter Mike Karl’s organization Homeless Angels. The group is a grassroots organization aimed at “real change for people who are homeless or face homelessness.” Karl, who was himself homeless at one time, has established a reputation for making real connections with the area’s homeless population. This puts the Angels in a strong position to locate and assist people who are living on the street and in various camps in the area who are unaware of or ineligible for local shelter options.

Karl has requested emergency donations so that Homeless Angels can purchase and deliver various supplies to those who may be facing a night on the street, and possibly provide them shelter.
