The East Lansing Police Department is currently looking for a suspect involved in an attempted home invasion that occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. today at a home near the intersection of Fern Street and Sunset Lane in East Lansing’s Oakwood neighborhood. According to an ELPD officer, a dog at the house confronted the individual, who seemed to be “unphased.”
The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) describes the suspect as “a black male, approximately 25 years old, approximately 6'2" tall, clean cut with a thin build.” The ELPD adds that “the suspect was wearing all dark clothing at the time of the home invasion and he may also have been wearing a knit hat.”
As of 8:00 a.m., ELPD was still actively looking for the suspect in the Oakwood neighborhood.
As we reported on August 25, two previous home invasions occurred in East Lansing and remain unsolved. In both of the earlier cases, what was originally reported by the ELPD as “home invasions” turned out, in at least one case, to involve sexual assaults.
For our earlier article, I asked an ELPD officer about what to do in the face of a home invader, to which he replied: “the decision to confront a suspect is a personal choice. At times, it may be the only choice depending upon the circumstances involved. If an individual has the time they can always lock themselves in a secure room and call 911. Another option may be fleeing the residence and calling 911. Each choice largely depends upon the specific situation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
