Thursday night, March 3, marks what is at least the 15th annual Marble Spaghetti Dinner. The event, a longstanding Marble tradition, was originally scheduled for February 25th this year, but was not held at that time because East Lansing Schools were closed for a snow day.

According to this year’s Parent Volunteer Coordinator, Courtney Trunk, “The event aims to raise funds to offset the costs involved with the annual 4th grade overnight trip to Mackinac Island.” Trunk estimates that “Probably 95% of funds raised this year will go directly toward the cost of bussing as well as a picnic lunch after a visit to Fort Michilimackinac.” She explains that volunteers make every attempt to get all items necessary for the dinner donated, but there are usually still a few costs involved.

The dinner includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, breadsticks and baked goods for dessert. Trunk says the dinner will have two seatings, one at 5:30 p.m. and one at 6:30 p.m. At both seatings, Marble Fourth Grade students will host, seat, and assist guests with serving and will refill drinks. Trunk explains that from year to year, who prepares the food varies, and that this year, all food will be donated by restaurants or private families anonymously providing catering.

This year’s dinner includes a raffle. First Prize in the raffle is a MSU basketball autographed by Tom Izzo, Second Prize is an MSU hockey stick autographed by Brad Fast, with a MSU hockey polo and t-shirt, Third Prize is $50 in gift certificates to Carrabba's Italian Grill, and Fourth Prize is a $25 gift card to Foods for Living. Winners need not be present to claim their prizes.

The cost to attend the Marble Spaghetti Dinner is $7 for an individual, $25 family of up to four and $30 family of five or more people.

Marble Elementary School is located at 729 Hagadorn Road.
