In order to prepare for the second phase of its renovation, the East Lansing Public Library will be closing its doors from Monday, May 16th until the following Sunday, May 22nd. However, library goers aren’t to fret because items will not be due during the library’s closure. Additionally, digital resources and an external book drop will still be available to the public.
The ELPL 2.0 Maker Studio, located on the second floor at the East Lansing Marriott at University Place, 300 M.A.C. Avenue will continue its services at its normal hours, serve as a drop-off and hold pick-up location for items, and house a small amount of public computers for those in need of internet access.
For these hold pick-up items, however, patrons must request that their hold be sent to this location by responding to their hold pick-up notice. The ELPL 2.0 Maker Studio hours are Tuesdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Library events including StoryTime, BabyTime, ToddlerTime, and the Teen After-School Drop-In Program will all be relocated to All Saints Episcopal Church at 800 Abbot Road during this period. The renovation will take place on the south side of the building, and ELPL’s collections, services, and staff work areas will be moved to the newly renovated north side of the building.
ELPL will re-open on May 23rd, and its services and approximately one-third of its collection will be available to the public on the north side of the library. The former meeting room entrance, located at the northeast corner of the library parking lot, will become the temporary main entrance. The book drop, located at the half circle drive on the south side of the library, will be relocated to the north side of the parking lot.
ELPL Director Kristin Shelly thanks the public for its patience, and is looking forward to the renovations to be completed in September of this year. “In the end, it will all be worth it,” she said.
