In March of 2017, we started a new tradition of “Open Office Hours." We invited readers, donors, and folks who are just curious about what ELi is and what we do. It was a great success, as was our second event in May. We met readers, answered lots of questions, and learned a lot about how to make ELi an even better community resource.
On Thursday, June 22 Publisher Alice Dreger and I will be at East Lansing’s Black Cat Bistro once again, from 7:30-9:00 p.m. with free appetizers, and room for you at the table. Plan to purchase your own drink and join us for conversation. Options include beer, wine, mixed drinks, soda, and coffee made from Bloom Coffee Roasters’ beans.
We hope you’ll talk to us about whatever is on your mind, including (but not limited to):
· what ELi could be doing better
· what ELi gets just right
· story ideas
· how you can become a reporter for ELi
· issues in East Lansing
· issues facing news organizations
· how we make decisions about everything from what's "news" to how to engage readers on difficult topics
Black Cat Bistro is located at 115 Albert Avenue in downtown East Lansing, just east of Abbot Road. Parking is available in the Grove Street ramp or City Lot 1 across the street.
We really hope you’ll come out to share a drink and some good conversation with us. If you're aged 14-22 or have a family member in that age range, we'd love to talk to you about our Summer Youth Journalism Program.
