East Lansing School Board Candidate Withdraws Petition to Recount Election
East Lansing school board candidate Noel Garcia withdraws petition to recount election effective immediately. EAST LANSING - After a few days of deliberation, Noel Garcia has withdrawn his petition to recount the East Lansing school board election. Just 39 votes had separated him from a spot on the board, and due to some of the concerns about absentee ballots and misinterpretation of precinct ballot markings, Garcia had inquired into the possibility of a recount. However, after consulting with the Board of Canvassers and realizing the high cost of the process, he has decided to withdraw his petition. “I hope my supporters understand that although I felt we had an opportunity to be part of the process to help improve elections in Ingham County, I could not bear the thought of putting a bill on the superintendent’s desk for up to $20,000 with my name associated with it. Our teachers and students need those dollars to be spent in the classroom and not on a re-count.” Garcia said. “I would like to thank everyone who supported my campaign and who encouraged me to seek a recount. Most importantly, I want to thank the Administrators, Teachers and Staff of the East Lansing School system for providing an awesome quality education for all of our young people. I wish the best for the new board and am here to serve in any way to help East Lansing Schools.”
