The corner of Abbot Road and Grand River Avenue is looking a little sparse lately with the closure of Conrad’s College Town Grill and the move of Spartan Corner inside of the Student Book Store.

Both businesses were tenants of Brad Ballein, owner of Ballein Management which also owns the Student Book Store (SBS).

When asked if he could comment on the move, closure or future plans for the site, Ballein said in an email this afteroon: “We are not in a position where we can share that information right now.”

Conrad’s owner Joe Conrad could not be reached for comment. The original Conrad’s opened at 101 E. Grand River Avenue in 2009.

Also closed is Spartan Corner, next to Conrad’s, a gift shop and embroidery store specializing in Greek apparel. The location at 103 E. Grand River Ave. has been closed about three weeks, but the business itself is still open in the loft of the Student Book Store. Renamed The Greek Loft, the business continues to offer Greek merchandising and embroidering.

The employee who answered the phone at The Greek Loft said the move was made as “more of a down-sizing.”

Conrad’s remains open at its location in the Frandor Shopping Center and at its location farther east along Grand River, at 1219 E. Grand River Avenue in East Lansing. According to their website, they will be announcing a new location soon.
