It’s looking like a hot one this weekend (at least Saturday and Sunday) and though it might be tempting to spend the weekend on a pool float, there are some things to do out of the water.

Friday night, the City’s 2016 Summer Concert Series kicks off six weekends of live music on Fridays and Saturdays in downtown East Lansing with local 80’s cover band Starfarm. The concert will take place at the Ann Street Plaza (corner of Albert & M.A.C. Avenues) in downtown East Lansing at 7 p.m., and it's free. You’re encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, and if it rains, the concert will be canceled.

If you take the kids, consider a cold treat ranging from the traditional (a 7-11 Slurpee) to the exotic (ice cream from Velvet).

Saturday, consider starting virtuously with yoga in the Sculpture Garden of the Broad Museum. All ages are welcome, and the event is free with registration. Participants are asked to bring their own yoga mats. After yoga, you can stick around for an “Acoustic Lunch” concert featuring Malcolm Holcombe from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the Museum’s Alan and Rebecca Ross Education Wing. Holcombe is described as being “cut from the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina…an acclaimed singer-songwriter who delivers true grit and raw emotion through a heartfelt concoction of country, blues, and folk.” You’re invited to bring your lunch to the concert, but if you’re feeling virtuous (and hungry) after all that yoga, you could also walk across the street for a Rodeo Burger, cold beer, and people-watching at The Peanut Barrel.

Sunday morning brings the Farmer's Market back to Valley Court from 10:00am to 2:00 pm with live music, the Good Bites Food Truck, and a nearby play structure for when the kids get tired of looking at kohlrabi. Here’s a list of what will be available at the Market this week. (Hint: get there early if you want strawberries or basil.)
