Passport Day on MSU Campus November 18th

Whether you're planning to travel internationally over the holidays, or just an update, the Lansing City Clerk’s Office will offer one-stop passport services on the MSU Campus on Wednesday, November 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MSU International Center, Spartan Room B.

The Clerk’s staff is partnering with the MSU Study Abroad Office to help MSU students, facult and staff, and the general public to complete the required application and obtain passport photos

Downtown Art Projects Reach Fundraising Goal

The East Lansing Artist Alleys crowdfunding campaign, which officially ends at 11:59 PM tonight, has reached its $45,000 fundraising goal.

The goal was met Tuesday, November 10, two days ahead of schedule. As of this writing, $46,785 has been raised from 118 supporters. Donations came from local individuals, organizations, and businesses.

This Sunday afternoon, MSU’s 60/50 project sponsored a Black Lives Matter (BLM) event at the East Lansing Public Library. The program included a two-hour community conversation about both the BLM movement itself and the ideals of its participants: racial equity and respect.

Michigan Senate May Say “yes” to Concealed guns in schools; EL School Board Says “no”

Members of Michigan’s Senate may decide as early as this week whether or not to let concealed weapons into Michigan’s “gun-free zones,” such as schools and universities. In mid-October, educators, alongside members of the public and state law-makers, discussed the proposed legislation at the Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee meeting in which Senators voted 4-1 in favor of the Senate Bill 442.

As of this morning, we have reached a total of $3,297 in donations towards our goal of $10,000 for this month. We are delighted that over half of those donating are new donors to ELi.

We are trying to raise $10,000 this month to fund ELi’s work through the end of January. You can read the report from our first fiscal year to see proof of how frugal, efficient, and local we are.

Julia Liggett, a freshman at MSU, hardly worries about getting home safely, even at night.

“Yeah, I feel safe. Even by myself. There’s still people out at night. There’s people everywhere, if I was by myself or something, somebody would help me.”

Would they?

Unfortunately for Liggett, science argues she might not be as safe as she believes.

The bystander effect is a psychological phenomenon that occurs when a group of people realize someone or something is in need of help, but assume another witness will give aid.

Beginning at midnight on Oct. 20, Tashmica Torok is asking sexual trauma survivors to participate in a social media event called, "Why I Told". Survivors can share what inspired them to tell their story, and hopefully encourage others to tell their stories.
