The annual book sale sponsored by Friends of the East Lansing Public Library (FOELPL) is a tradition many people don't want to miss. This year, because of major renovation at the library, the event will be held in a new location---Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road in East Lansing. Book sale hours have been expanded, from 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday, October 10, and from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, October 11.

There is a new park in the Glencairn neighborhood, behind Hannah Community Center. Well, okay, the green space at the intersection of Sunset Lane and Southlawn Avenue has always been there, and some people even knew it was a city park. But now the City of East Lansing has named it the Corey Cafagna Park. The park will soon have what people expect in a neighborhood park---benches, a flower planter, and an "official" name sign.

Since its inception five years ago at East Lansing’s Edgewood Village, All of the Above Hip Hop Academy, AOTA, has been working to mentor young creatives, cultivate a strong, artistic community and foster a positive hip hop culture within the East Lansing and Lansing areas.

AOTA provides local teens with opportunities to take free classes in lyric writing, producing music, Bboying and even graffiti art. All classes are taught by industry veterans, including program founder Ozay Moore, formerly a successful hip hop recording artist.

Tomorrow: The June 6 Pumpstock Music Festival at Bailey Park will offer both local stars and nationally touring artists playing on two stages for continuous music from 2pm to 8pm.

Festival organizer Dudley “Smitty” Smith was involved with Pump House Concerts before the Festival was founded. The idea of these concerts – “an intimate atmosphere and a comfortable and involving listening environment” – blossomed into Pumpstock.

Six months after filming for “Batman vs. Superman” took over East Lansing, the comic world is again poised to take over the Lansing area with the start of Capital City Comic Con.

Starting Saturday morning at Haslett High School, Capital City Comic Con is bringing together artists, writers, collectors, vendors and fans for a celebration of all things comic, science fiction and game. Unlike the larger national events that inspired it, Capital City Comic Con has a decidedly local flavor.

Three Youth-Written Plays, One Night: All-of-us Express’ First Young Playwrights Festival

Next weekend (May 9), East Lansing-based All-of-us Express Children’s Theatre will be performing their first ever Young Playwrights Festival, directed by youth participant Savannah Segueda.
