Many musicians and audio engineers make a hobby of collecting and trading any music gear they can find. A Facebook group called “Mid Michigan Musical Instruments Buy Sell or Trade” has close to 2,000 members and endless deals are made almost daily on used equipment across Mid-Michigan.

When the application to open the Tin Can bar on Grand River Avenue came before the last East Lansing City Council in October, it led to a contentious 3-2 vote, with then-Mayor Nathan Triplett, then-Mayor Pro Tem Diane Goddeeris, and City Councilmember Susan Woods voting in favor, and Councilmembers Ruth Beier and Kathy Boyle voting against.

Various blighted, vacant buildings near Peoples Church downtown are likely to soon be demolished following a series of recent actions by the City designed to bring about the demolition.

The Hatch is a space designed to aid undergraduate Michigan State University students in their entrepreneurial endeavors. Located on the third floor of 325 E. Grand River Avenue, Suite 345, the space gives students 24 hour access to the co-working space to utilize their various resources and to start their businesses.

In a pair of unanimous votes, this week East Lansing’s City Council put through a group of zoning changes that appear designed to encourage more housing for non-students in high-density areas of the City and to discourage housing of large number of students in single dwelling units.

Tomorrow, the City of East Lansing will host the first meeting of the group convened by City Council to address landlords’ concern about the City telling them they may not make improvements on certain properties. Since 2011, the City has determined that landlords cannot make certain changes to their buildings if they are “nonconforming”—that is, if the buildings don’t meet the zoning for that property.
