One Week Left in ELi's Fundraiser

Saturday, October 24, 2015

With just one week left in our October fundraiser, we have raised $7,402 towards our goal of $10,000! If we can reach our goal, we will have funding in the bank to keep ELi safely rolling through the end of January.

Several ELi supporters have stepped up to our match challenge—a $500 match from an anonymous donor for every $500 individual donation or $500 donation bundle.

We extend our heartfelt thank to our generous “anchor” $500 campaign donors:

We are trying to raise $10,000 this month to fund ELi’s work through the end of January. You can read the report from our first fiscal year to see proof of how frugal, efficient, and local we are.

Staying Safe in East Lansing: Be Aware, Trust Your Instincts

Monday, October 19, 2015

Julia Liggett, a freshman at MSU, hardly worries about getting home safely, even at night.

“Yeah, I feel safe. Even by myself. There’s still people out at night. There’s people everywhere, if I was by myself or something, somebody would help me.”

Would they?

Unfortunately for Liggett, science argues she might not be as safe as she believes.

The bystander effect is a psychological phenomenon that occurs when a group of people realize someone or something is in need of help, but assume another witness will give aid.

City Changing Ordinance to Support Deer Hunt

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

With plans in place to start killing deer in East Lansing starting late next month, City Council will be voting in November to change an ordinance to support the plan. Such a legal change may not really be necessary according to City Attorney Tom Yeadon. But Yeadon told City Council on Tuesday night that prudence suggests an amendment to the current ordinance involving restriction of firearms so that it will be straightforward in the future for the City or State to cull deer as necessary in the City of East Lansing.
